Product

A small introduction, made of wood.

We thought about the material, the fit, and how easy the name is to read — all so it can be worn every day.

Laser-cut wooden tags

Each tag is laser-cut from wood and engraved with a name. Warm to the touch, and it sits naturally on your chest.

Magnetic — no damage to your clothes

The back is a strong magnet. No pin holes to worry about — it stays put even over a jacket.

Room for more than just a name

Engrave whatever you like. Beyond your name, add your affiliation or a favorite phrase — a tag that’s one of a kind.

For events

A nametag that starts the conversation.

For events and conferences, we offer nametags with a QR code, which naturally encourages people to “remember names and connect.”

It feels like a game

Scan rankings and stories that unlock as you meet more people make the connecting itself fun.

For organizers, we provide a registration screen for participants and a dashboard showing who connected with whom and when. Pricing for events is quoted based on size and scope — reach out by DM on Instagram or X to discuss.

Where it started

A single nametag from Stanford.

In the summer of 2024, our director Nishida spent a month at Stanford University’s d.school. There, he was handed a wooden, magnetic nametag. He was so struck by how it was made that he took three extra with him on the way out. Looking back, the idea that “a nametag means you don’t have to remember names” had already caught hold of him before The Name Mnemonic Research Institute even existed.

He wanted to make one himself in Japan, too — but it took a while to actually get started. What finally got him moving was a university course in May 2025. The assignment was “in one week, do something you’ve always wanted to do but never got around to,” and that’s when he made his first nametag. People loved it, and about a year later, when he ran into the instructor again, hearing “I’m still using it” meant a lot.

The next big batch was for a wedding. In December 2025, he built a system using these nametags for a hackathon set at a wedding and won a prize; by January 2026, it was in use at an after-party for about 100 guests, where people meeting for the first time scanned each other’s tags. Lightening the burden of remembering names, starting with something you wear — it’s The Name Mnemonic Research Institute’s most hands-on approach.
