ABOUT US

About The Name Mnemonic Research Institute

Our mission and what we do.

Erasing "who was that again?" from the world.

"Who was that again?"
Everyone has felt that awkward moment at least once.
For someone with prosopagnosia, it happens in almost every corner of daily life — and it is a real source of hardship.

The Name Mnemonic Research Institute works to erase that moment of "who was that again?" from the world, using the power of technology and public information.

What We Do

From publishing information to building apps, our work supports people who struggle to remember faces and names.

Information and Awareness

Sharing evidence-based information about prosopagnosia and offering a self-check. This website is at the center of that work.

Interviews With People Who Live With It

We value first-hand accounts from people with prosopagnosia, and hold ongoing conversations and research about the difficulty of not being able to remember faces and names.

Building a Name-Memory App

We are developing an app that lets people record names, tags, and past conversations tied to each person they meet.

Building an App for Smart Glasses

We are working on an app that recognizes faces through camera-equipped glasses and displays names in the lens.

Building a Community

We are growing a community of people with prosopagnosia, researchers, and engineers who think together about how to ease the burden of remembering people.

The Director’s Story

I love being around people, yet I can’t remember the names of people who matter to me.
When that difficulty finally had a name — "prosopagnosia" — something in me felt lighter.

Our director, an engineer, founded The Name Mnemonic Research Institute to tell others with the same struggle: you are not alone.
